Message Board

Chris Moneymaker was born and raised in Tennessee. He attended the University of Tennessee and majored in accounting, ultimately graduating with a Masters degree. Chris and his wife have a daughter.

Chris Moneymaker started playing poker with friends after watching the movie "Rounders." After a while he got bored playing with just his friends and he wanted to broaden his game. With the closest casino over four hours away Chris had to find a viable alternative. He started looking around and found out that you could play poker on the internet.

Chis Moneymaker won an entry into the 2003 WSOP main event by winning a $39 satellite on Poker Stars. He realized it would be difficult to scrape together airfare and hotel costs. His father, Mike and a friend, David Gamble, put up some money to cover the cost for the trip in exchange for a portion of his winnings. As you probably already know, Moneymaker went on to win the 2003 WSOP and he took home the $2.5 million prize.

Moneymaker quit his job to serve as a celebrity spokesman for Harrah's Casino and PokerStars. He also began traveling to play in more larger buy-in tournaments. His main goal is to provide for his family, so although he quit his job, he does envision going back to mainstream work eventually.
